Following Andy Pettitte’s retirement announcement last week, the New York Yankees are left with a big hole in their starting rotation. CC Sabathia, Phil Hughes, and A.J. Burnett are the team’s top three starters, while the last two spots are up for grabs. Ivan Nova and Sergio Mitre are options for Joe Girardi, but their limited experience in The Show may hurt their chances, as the Bronx Bombers tend to go with more established pitchers. That leaves Freddy García (35) and Bartolo Colón (37), both of whom will try to prove they are not washed-up.

Juan Uribe is a liar. He claims he’ll do whatever the Sox want as far as his position goes. I’m gonna go head and call him a liar. Did I already say that? He has apparently dropped a few pounds which is good; he was beginning to look a little like a Molina. That’s not going to stop him from swinging at everything thrown in the general direction of the plate. I think his attitude adjustment will only last as long as it takes Ozzie to award a starting spot to someone else (Ramirez).

For instance, what about Bartolo Colon? Yes, he’s a giant man with a fickle elbow and even more fickle back but many forget he won a Cy Young just two years ago. When healthy, Colon has the ability to dominate and in a market where Carlos Silva might pull down near $50 million dollars, giving Colon a one year deal for $9-10 million bucks is the kind of risk the Mariners should be interested in. Besides, if he doesn’t strike fear into opposing batters, he will at a minimum strike fear into the guy setting up the buffet table.
