World Series

d, and with the Braves currently leading the NL East, he’s looking for his first crack at the World Series and the opportunity to go out on top.

How about Carlos Gonzalez?  The Venezuelan outfielder is enjoying a fine year in his first full season as a big leaguer, hitting .320 with 26 homers, 84 RBI’s, and 20 stolen bases.  His batting average, .569 slugging percentage, and .922 OPS put him behind only Pujols and Votto in the National League.  Rockies fans can look forward to many years of watching Gonzalez display his talents at Coors Field.  At 24, he has a very promising career ahead of him.

After the way Cliff Lee pitched against the Yankees in the World Series six weeks ago, I would have been surprised to hear that the Phillies were even listening to offers for their ace.  But when the chance to acquire Roy Halladay comes around, I suppose any team would be crazy not to listen.  Before I knew it, Halladay was a Phillie and Lee was heading to Seattle, where he’ll join his third club in the span of four and a half months.  How often does that happen to the defending Cy Young Award winner?

d put themselves in the record books in back-to-back at-bats in the seventh inning of Game 5 of the World Series in Philadelphia.  Each tied an offensive mark originally set before Phil Coke, the Yankee pitcher who faced the duo, was born.  Utley matched Reggie Jackson, who hit five home runs in the 1977 Fall Classic.  Jackson, incidentally, was in his first year in Yankee pinstripes.  Howard tied Willie Wilson, whose 12 strikeouts in the 1980

ng Cubs fan, I thought I should point out that the Phils are the logical choice to root for in this World Series.

I have heard the stories all year long about the Rays, and sure they make a nice story and all, but as a Cubs fan, do I really care to hear about some other team coming from nowhere to win it all? Wouldn't I be better off with a winner that was actually expected to do something this season? I mean, if the futility of the North Siders continues throughout my lifetime, do I really need any more storylines about the team that has a payroll lower than some teams coaching salaries? Well that's just the beginning, really...

u would have told me in April that the Tampa Bay Rays and the Philadelphia Phillies would go to the World Series, I would have told you to get some professional help. While teams like the Cubs and Angels consider their seasons failures after having the best regular season in their respective leagues, the Rays and the Phillies go to show that it’s not the best regular season team that wins in the playoffs. Just as the Rockies of 2007 won 21 of their last 22 games to make it into the

It must be good to be a player from Boston.  Not only are you part of a Championship team with local fans that you know adore you, you now know that the whole country realizes and acknowledges your accomplishments and strengths.
