Yankees

It seems that John Swofford, the coordinator of the BCS did not really enjoy his time in front of Congress as some of them did not have kind words for him. Many things such as BS instead of BCS came out of their mouths fueling the fire what many college football fans are feeling about this system that we have to pick a National Champion. For the longest time I was for a playoff format, but I have thought a lot about it and I do agree a little bit with John Swofford, but not totally.

"glove" does not fit you must...not sign him!  I am not even mentioning the New York Yankees, who won so many championships then they go on a spending spree, getting rid of Alfonso Soriano, and signing A-Rod to one of the biggest contracts we have ever seen.  It just does not make sense to me anymore.  Why not save money and get some roll player to help out your stars already?  Cowboys will be better off without T.O., Pistons need to trade A.I. and get some player like a Shane Battier, and the Lakers are the best team in the NBA, without the two Hall of Famer's.  The

ame 1 of the NLCS.  I’m not a big fan of baseball, but I do like the Phillies (Mets, and Yankees as well).  I watch about a handful of games a year including the playoffs.  I was never really into baseball…I just don’t get the fascination?  I find it slow, dull, and extremely boring…unless you’re at the ballpark…then it’s a whole different story!  When you’re actually at the game, it’s exciting and much more “family friendly” than football.

The Joe Torre-less Yankees are not going to the playoffs for the first time since 1994 (when there was no postseason due to the players’ strike), and as a baseball fan, I feel like something will be missing from this year’s postseason.  Even I – a self-proclaimed Yankee-hater (but NOT a Sox fan) – am genuinely sorry to see the Red Sox reach October with more baseball to play while that team from New York is going home early.  While I’m thrilled that the Rays are playoff-bound, it does not seem right that there’s no chance of a Yankee-Red Sox showdown in 2008.

At the of 10, I pitched my first baseball game.  By 16, I had pitched my last.  I was a product of a career cut short by tendonitis in the elbow of my throwing arm.  I recall coming home after high school games to the weak therapy of a heating pad which only isolated my pain.  The throbbing would be so intense that I was unable to move my arm enough to pick up a pencil to do my math homework.  I knew things were on their way down when a kid clobbered a 300 some-odd foot homerun off of the first pitch of my career.  It would be the only homerun I gave up all year, but as the season moved on, my stamina withered.  A 5 inning outing quickly turned into 4 innings then 3.  Before I knew it, I was moved to the role of closer.  By the end of the season, I was lucky if I could handle more than 1 innings worth of work.  My fastball steadily declined from the upper-mid 70s to the low 60s.  With only two games left in the season, I broke my left thumb and was done for the season.

I root for just about all the NY teams, except for the Islanders, and although I'm mostly a Yankees and Giants fan, I root for the Mets and Jets, too when they play other cities, I can't be a NY hater, I'm sorry. My timing for writing this couldn't be better. The

belli  over to Fenway from Logan...just in time to catch Wake for a game against the Yankees. What drama? Super Dougie! The Sox won! That's great.  But to me we were still getting back a guy who could have held the bat upside down and had more hits.  But he was Wakefield's personal catcher.

eo Epstein called Mike Mussina a “bad apple” for comments Mussina made after he and the Yankees traveled to Japan to begin the 2004 season.  (Who wouldn’t be tired after a 17-hour flight?)  Theo Epstein is no idiot, but what was he thinking?  Of all the Yankee pitchers to criticize right now, why choose Mussina?  I’ll admit my bias – Moose used to be Baltimore’s ace, and even though it killed me to see him put on pinstripes for the first time seven years ago, I still like the guy.  But Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens (allegedly) CHEATED!  What am I missing here?

lot for the team and he did not cheat then, at least as far as we know, he went on to play for the Yankees and the motivation for his career was only money.  The past two years, Red Sox fans filled the airwaves phoning in their thoughts to WEEI in hopes of having Roger Clemens come back to Boston to end his storied career.  How great would it have been if he came full circle?  It would have atoned for him playing for the
